Lena M. (Boliver) Aucter
July 27, 1923 - August 5, 2018

CROGHAN, New York ~ Surrounded by her loving family, Lena M. Aucter, 95, of the Soft Maple Road, Croghan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 5, 2018, at the Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, where she had been admitted.

Born July 27, 1923, in Indian River in the Town of Croghan to Francis P. and Margaret E. (Brown) Boliver, she was educated in Indian River country schools.  On May 21, 1946, she married Bernard H. Aucter at the former St. Anthony’s Church in Indian River with the Rev. Eugene Chauflin, OFM, officiating.  Mr. Aucter died March 21, 2003.

For much of her life, Lena worked as a mother and homemaker for her large family.  An avid knitter, she enjoyed creating all sorts of articles for her children and grandchildren.  In addition, she found great pleasure as a participating member of the Soft Maple Roots Quilting Group.  A communicant of St. Stephen’s Church in Croghan and a Team Member of “The Memory Keepers” Relay for Life, Lena had, at one time, belonged to the Beaver River Fish and Game Club as well.

She is survived by three daughters:  Ethel Hoch, of Belfort, Susan (Carl) Sauer, of Lowville, and Patricia (Bruce) Flint, of Croghan; three sons:  Eugene F. (Shirley), Bernard H. Jr., (Cindy), and Randy A. (Kathy) Aucter, all of Croghan; twenty-one grandchildren; forty-eight great grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Yousey, of Croghan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Joshua Aucter; a great granddaughter, Magdelena Sauer; four brothers:  Lyle, Herbert, Earl, and Harold Boliver; two sisters, Edna Moore and Irene Widrick; and a son-in-law, Duane Hoch.

Lena’s funeral services will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018, beginning with a 12:15 p.m. Prayer Service at the Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, followed by a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial from St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Donald Manfred, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan.  Calling hours will be on Thursday, August 9th, 2018, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen’s Church Restoration Fund or to the Croghan Volunteer Fire Department.
