David Collins
October 7, 1938 ~ October 17, 2018 (age 80)

LOWVILLE- David Collins, 80, formerly of the West Road, Lowville, passed away Wednesday morning, October 17, 2018, at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility where he had resided since August 10, 2015.

David was born on October 7, 1938, in Spanish Harlem, New York, to William and Bridie Donaghue Collins and attended St. Raymond’s Catholic School in the Bronx.  He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served until his honorable discharge in November 1961.  For the next twenty20 years, he worked for the New York State Thruway Authority as a bridge painter on the Tappan Zee Bridge.  While at that job, he met his future wife, Christina Noonan.  On November 19, 1966, he married her at Our Lady of Angel’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn, New York, with Father Phillips officiating.   For eight years, they farmed in Middletown, New York, before moving to the farm on the West Road in Lowville in 1987.  Together, they owned and operated that dairy farm until they retired in 2002.  A communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, he had a passion for traditional Irish music, his family, and farming.

He is survived by Christina, his wife of fifty-one years; ten children and their spouses, Michael and Theresa Collins, of Syracuse, Mary and Jose Interiano, of Croghan, Brigid and Thomas Fayle, of Lowville, David Collins, of Albany, William and Jaznia Collins, of Forest Hills, James Collins, of Lowville, Danny and Katie Collins, of Buffalo, John and Sammy Collins, of Rome, Kathleen and David Orth, of Eaton, Lymen Mecca Collins, and Angel Rounds, of Port Leyden; twenty grandchildren; and a sister, Kathleen Collins, of Riverdale, New York; as well as by nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He is predeceased by two brothers, Daniel and William Collins.

The Collins family would like to thank the staff of the fourth floor at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility for their loving care and kindness shown to David during his stay at the nursing home.  

A funeral mass will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Jay Seymour, pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Martinsburg Cemetery.  There are no calling hours.  Everyone is welcome to join the family for a luncheon at St. Peter’s Church Fellowship Hall immediately following the burial.  Contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
