March 9, 1938 – December 12, 2018

CALCIUM – Sterling W. Conant, 80, of Calcium, passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, under the care of his loving family and Jefferson County Hospice.

Sterling was born on March 9, 1938, in Watertown, New York, to the late William C. and Arliuene A. (Shaw) Conant.  In 1955, he graduated from Watertown High School.  He, then, went on to work at Kraft Foods in Lowville where he remained until he retired after 25 years of dedicated service.  On October 5, 1957, he married Angeline D. Shambo at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Copenhagen, with the Reverend Earl Nichols officiating. Sterling liked crafting, wood-working, following Syracuse Basketball, and attending dirt track stock car races.  Most of all, however, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Sterling is survived by Angeline, his beloved wife of 61 years of Calcium, New York; a daughter, RoseAnn Conant, of Watertown, New York; a son, Todd (Kim) Conant, of Hudson, Florida; two sisters, Sylvia Gilmartin, of Watertown, New York, and Gloria (Dale) Tiffany, Greensboro, North Carolina; four grandchildren:  Tony Diaz, of Watertown, New York, Shawna (Dave) Gibeau, of Carthage, New York, Stevie Gould, of Croghan, New York, and Marissa Conant, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and his great-grandchildren:  Cadence, McKayla, and Jacob; as well as by several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by three infant daughters, Shawn, Pamela Sue, and Paula Alice; and several brothers-in-law: Peter Gilmartin, and Earl, Douglas, and Roger Shambo.

There will be no calling hours. A spring burial service will follow at the Brookside Cemetery in Watertown.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County. The Conant family would like to thank the Jefferson County Hospice Nurses and Volunteers for their compassion and special care shown to the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.
