Marget McCrirrick Stewart Davey
July 16, 1923 - February 14, 2018

Lowville, New York:  Surrounded by her family, Marget McCrirrick Stewart Davey died peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, after suffering a stroke on Friday, February 9.

The youngest child of Susan and George Stewart, Marget was born on Staten Island, New York, on July 16, 1923.  She grew up both on Staten Island, New York, and in Rothesay, Scotland.  During World War II, she worked in New York City for the British Ministry of War and also for Uniforms by Ostwald on Staten Island, New York.

In 1944, Marget married James Richard Davey.  They, subsequently, had nine children.  In 1963, the family moved permanently to Lowville New York.  In addition to raising her children, Marget held several jobs over the years including a part-time position as secretary for Trinity Church and Mihalyi Real Estate.  Moreover, she retired from the Lewis County Family Court as the Chief Clerk in September 1990.

Active in several community organizations, Marget participated in:  the Lowville Current Topics Club, the Lewis County Hospital Auxiliary Bridge Club, the Lowville Free Library, the Constable Hall Association, and the Lewis County Historical Society.  In addition, she enjoyed playing golf and bridge, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Her survivors include her four sons and two daughters along with their spouses:  Stewart R. (Kelly) of Goose Bay, New York, James R. “Hamish,” Jr., (Eloise) of Lowville, New York, Bruce’s wife, Elaine, of Richmond, Illinois, Derek M., of Lowville, New York, Christopher H., of Breckenridge, Colorado, and Sloane D. (Chris) of Andover, Massachusetts, and Felicity A. (Nick), of Thendara, New York; eleven grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her siblings:  Eelin Stewart Harrison, James Stewart, and Mary Stewart McPhee; and her children:  Fredrick “Bop,” Pamela, and Bruce; her daughter-in-law, Lorene; and her grandson, Seamus.

Marget's memorial service will be held at Trinity Church, Lowville, on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 11:00 A.M.  Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the Lewis County Historical Society or the Lowville Free Library.
