Sylvia Ann Rachwal Davies
May 29, 1940 - November 22, 2020

Remsen- With her loving family at her side, Sylvia Ann Rachwal Davies, 80, went to be with the Lord on November 22, 2020, at St. Luke’s Hospital.

Sylvia was born in Lowville, New York, on May 29, 1940, to Stanley and Charlene Daskiewich Rachwal.  Growing up, she attended schools in Port Leyden.  On February 4, 1972, she married Robert Davies in Boonville, New York; they had a loving union before he passed on January 3, 2019.

After having worked for General Electric and ICL of Utica, she retired in 1992 to help care for her grandson, Travis, the apple of her eye.  After retiring, Sylvia and Robert enjoyed taking nature hikes. In addition, she liked to knit and crochet.  Nevertheless, her love for books consumed most of her free time.  After Robert’s passing, however, Sylvia enjoyed spending all her time with her son, Jim, and daughter-in-law, Kim.  Moreover, she loved visiting Vermont, travelling to see Travis and his wife Melissa, relaxing at Brantingham Lake with her brother Stan’s family, and taking road trips to Florida.  Furthermore, she loved to shop and would spend hours on end just browsing a store and getting her steps in.  Of all the seasons, Sylvia enjoyed the Christmas holidays the most when Rachwal’s extended family would get together to spend the day making hundreds of Pierogies while reminiscing about times gone by and forming new memories.  When all was said and done, Sylvia, also, looked forward to her luncheons with former coworkers and childhood friends with whom she had maintained long-lasting loving friendships.

Having beaten lymphoma, Sylvia felt blessed to be able to attend Travis’s graduation from high school and college as well as his wedding.  In addition, she attended many Remsen soccer, baseball, and basketball games which her son, Jim, coached and in which Travis played.  Moreover, she, rarely, missed a televised game of UCONN girls’ basketball and followed their exploits extensively.  Such a kind woman, Sylvia was, also, known for her determination.  Once she had made up her mind, no one could change it.  She loved her fur baby grandchildren:  Nala, Simba, Lyla, and Daryll Strawberry. They brought her so much love and joy, and she spoiled them rotten.

Sylvia is survived by her son and daughter- in- law, James and Kimberley Wilder; and her grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Travis and Melissa Wilder; her sisters-in-law, Helen Rachwal and Carol (Jim) Drews; and her brother-in-law, Marvin (Jeanette) Davies; as well as by many special cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Charlene Rachwal; her brother, Stanley Rachwal; her husband, Robert Davies; and her father- and mother-in-law, Richard and Gladys Davies.

Calling hours are scheduled for Friday, November 27, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Ackley-Mills Funeral Home, 9597 Main Street, Remsen, New York, with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m.  Interment will take place at the Fairchild Cemetery.
