Burton E. Kloster
July 8, 1939 ~ March 19, 2018 (age 78)

CROGHAN – Burton E. Kloster, 78, passed away Monday morning, March 19, 2018, at his home while under the loving care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.

A son of the late Rueben and Nora Kuhl Kloster, Burt was born on July 8, 1939, in Lowville.  He attended country school at Indian River and Father Leo Memorial School.  Before going to work in construction, he was employed at Climax in Castorland.  Then, he worked for several contractors on various projects throughout New York State including a new addition to Beaver River Central School in the late 1960s and Route 126 from Naumburg to Carthage.  He retired in 2001 from construction work at Ft. Drum.

A communicant of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, a member of the Beaver River Fish and Game Club, and an honorary member of Balsam Creek Hunting Club and Harrisville Rod and Gun Club, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, ATV riding, and playing softball.  Indeed, he was well known for his fast pitch in the Lewis County Fast Pitch Softball League.

He is survived by his siblings and their spouses: George “Casey” and Julie Kloster, of Long Pond, Carole Hoch, of Croghan, Gilbert and Susie Kloster, of Belfort, Patrick and Donna Kloster, of Long Pond, and Timothy Kloster, of Croghan; and an aunt, Beverly Kloster; as well as by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He is predeceased by three siblings:  Thomas Kloster, who died in the Vietnam War, Michael Kloster, and Delphine Kloster, who died in infancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan, with Rev. Donald Manfred, pastor, officiating.  A spring burial will follow at St. Vincent DePaul’s Cemetery, Belfort.  There will be no calling hours.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Vincent’s Oratory, Belfort, P.O. Box 38, Croghan, New York 13327, or to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, New York 13367.  Arrangements are with the Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
