Doris Y. Kogut
July 19, 1935 - June 30, 2017

~~Greig – Doris Y. Kogut, 81, of the Fish Creek Road, widow of Joseph Kogut, and affectionately known as Bonnie, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017, at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital, New Hartford, following a brief illness.

A daughter of David and Helen Graves Jones, Doris was born on July 19, 1935, in Lowville.  Raised in Greig on the Jones Road, she graduated from General Martin High School with the Class of 1954.  After completing her education, she was employed for a time at Utica Cutlery before going to work alongside her mother and grandmother as a cook at logging camps in Raquette Lake.

Doris married Joseph Kogut on May 26, 1962, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Glenfield.  The couple settled in Greig before moving to the Kotary Road, Constableville, where together they operated a dairy farm.  They retired in 1987 to a home they built in Greig.  Mr. Kogut, a US Army veteran of World War II, passed away on May 8, 1990.

After retiring, Bonnie enjoyed the simple things in life, whether rocking on her front porch in the sun, going for a ride on the backcountry roads, or spending much cherished time with her children and grandchildren.  Throughout her life, she devoted herself to giving back to her neighbors and community.  Indeed, Ma Kogut’s door was always open to everyone.

She is survived by her son, Paul (Ann) Kogut, and their children, Joshua and Joseph, of Yakima, Washington, her daughter, Dawn (Richard) Emerson, and their children, Keith, Mitchell, Audrey, and Damon, and her daughter, Vicky (Roy) Aden, and their children, Steven and Jessica, all of Lyons Falls; her sister Bernice Mihalyi, of Glenfield; and her sisters-in-law, Geraldine Jones, of Lyons Falls and Jean Mooney, of Boonville; as well as by several nieces and nephews.  Besides her husband Joseph, she was predeceased by a grandson, Jacob Kogut; and her brothers, Donald, David, and Robert Jones; and sisters, Jean Markham, Phyllis Youngs, and Beatrice Fowler.

Funeral services will begin with a 12:00 noon prayer service on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Glenfield, with Rev. Christopher Carrara, pastor, officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Constableville.  Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Lyons Falls Fire Dept. Ambulance, P.O. Box 520, Lyons Falls, New York 13368.
