 Elizabeth L. Witzigman
April 30, 1937 - March 5, 2017

New Hartford – Elizabeth L. Witzigman, 79, wife of Donald C. Witzigman, affectionately known as Betty, longtime resident of Upper Woods Circle, and formerly of Holland Patent, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017.

A daughter of Wallace and Marie Dragan Jackson, Elizabeth was born in Boonville on April 30, 1937. Raised in Boonville, she graduated from Boonville Central School with the Class of 1955. She, then, enrolled at St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing, Utica, completing a Registered Nurse’s Degree with the Class of 1958. Employed for a time as a medical/surgical nurse with Dr. Albert Shaheen of Utica, she, soon, began working at local hospitals, eventually retiring from the Slocum Dickson Medical Group.

On August 22, 1959, Elizabeth married Donald C. Witzigman at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Boonville, with Rev. Robert Donovan officiating. They, then, moved to Holland Patent where they resided for the next seventeen years before moving to their current home in New Hartford.

A parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Elizabeth, also, belonged to the women’s club as well as St. Elizabeth’s Alumni Association and local chapters of the Red Hat Society. Moreover, she found great enjoyment in the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Donald, Betty is survived by her daughters: Karen (Larry) Gardner, of Boonville, and Ellen Teachout, of Whitesboro; her grandchildren: Christopher (Soleil) Witzigman, Brian (Tori) Marsden, Kaitlyn Mars, and Nicholas Teachout; five great-grandchildren: Landon, Emmit, Wyatt, Emiley, and Madeline; and her sister, Donna (George) Kline; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Justin Witzigman; and her brother, Richard Jackson.

Funeral Services will begin on Friday, March 10, 2017, with a 10:00 a.m. prayer service at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St., Boonville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church of Christ Our Hope Parish, Boonville, with Rev. Thomas Ward officiating. Interment will follow this spring in St. Mary’s Cemetery, West Leyden. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of CNY, 441 West Kirkpatrick Street, Syracuse, New York 13204.
