Clifford Junior Cranker
August 3, 1938 - September 12, 2020

TURIN - Clifford J. Cranker, 82, formerly of the East Road, Turin, and the East Road, Adult Home, Lowville, died Saturday morning, September 12, 2020, at the Lewis County General Hospital.

Cliff was born on August 3, 1938, in West Carthage, to the late Everett and Elise (Stevens) Cranker.  After graduating from Constableville High School, he served in the U.S. Army from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1960.  Clifford, then, earned a Bachelors in Elementary Education and a Masters in Math Education from Plattsburg State University.  Beginning his teaching career at South Lewis Central at the Glenfield Elementary School in 1967, he remained there until June of 1970.  That September, he took up teaching junior high math at South Lewis Central School where he remained until he retired in 1993.  At that time, he joined the Retired Teachers Association.

While at South Lewis, he coached boys’ basketball, cross country, and track and field.  In Watertown, Cliff joined the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO) and in Syracuse, an organization of Track and Field Officials.  A member of the Turin Highlands Golf Course, he, also, bowled for many years at Constableville Bowling and served as President of the bowling association when they were pushing for automatic pin machines.  As an adolescent, he had set pins at the alley.  In addition, Cliff belonged to the Turin United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his siblings:  Beverly (Mark) Barker, of Watertown, Betty Ann Cranker, of Cazenovia, Joan Silberman, of Hirschey, Pennsylvania, Donna (Richard) Van Horn, of West Carthage, Esther Bercume, of Georgia, Gary L. (Annette) Cranker, of Rochester, and Ronald D. Cranker, of Brandon Florida; as well as by nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Cliff is predeceased by his three sisters:  Carol LaRock, Shirley Bigelow, Ruth Wormwood.

Calling hours are scheduled from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M at the Sundquist Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 15, 2020.  A graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at 10:00 A.M. at the Turin Cemetery with Dorothy Spear, officiating.  Memorials may be made to the Turin United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
