Ellon M. (Bailey) Grunert
August 4, 1954 ~ June 8, 2019 (age 64)

LOWVILLE- Under the loving care of her husband, her family, and Lewis County Hospice, Ellon M. Grunert, 64, of the Erie Canal Road, passed away Saturday morning, June 8, 2019, at her home.

Ellon was born on August 4, 1954, in Bath, New York, to the late Robert and Nancy Little Bailey.  On August 14, 1971, she married L. Michael Grunert at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church with Rev. Anthony Moore officiating.  In 1972, she graduated from Beaver River Central School.  After raising her family, she attended Jefferson Community College, graduating with an associate degree in Human Services.  Next, she first worked at Lewis County Opportunities, then for Mountain View Prevention, and most recently, for Lewis County Public Health where she remained for many years before retiring in 2016.  Then, she became a substitute teacher at Beaver River Central School while also working at the Lowville Producers’ Cheese Store.  A member of the Board of Directors of Lewis County Head Start, she had, also, served at one time as a board member of the Lowville Producers’ Dairy CO-OP and with the Eastern Star.

Ellon loved her whole family, and she, especially, cherished spending time with her grandchildren.  She had a deep faith in Jesus as well as a passion for cooking and experimenting with food.  In addition, she enjoyed canning.  Her other interests included gardening, camping, bird watching, and caring for her dogs, cats, and goats.  She enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to laugh.  Through her compassion, assertiveness, and strong leadership, she touched the lives of many people in the North Country.  Greatly missed, she will never be forgotten.

Ellon is survived by her husband, Michael; her children and their spouses, Todd and Karsten Grunert, of Beaver Falls, and Holly and Matthew Olmstead, of Lowville; her siblings and their spouses:  Bonnie and John Kirch, of Castorland, Warran Bailey, of American Canyon, California, and Willard and Rachel Bailey. of Lowville; six grandchildren:  MaKenna, Montana, Cade, Camden, Cana, and Cassle; and an aunt and uncle, Carolyn and Doug Bailey, of Livermore, California; as well as by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and the entire Grunert family.  She is predeceased by her beloved niece, Mary Kirch.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Croghan with Rev. Donald Manfred, Pastor, officiating and Rev. Matthew Zehr of the Abundant Life Community Church.  Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan.   Calling hours are scheduled from 1:00 to 3:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at the Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, New York.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lewis County General Hospital Fund for Hope, 7785 North State Street, Lowville, New York 13367, or to the Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Lowville, New York 13367, or to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, New York 13367.
