Sadie Lucille Shettleton
July 22, 1943 ~ August 6, 2020

CARTHAGE- Under the loving care of her family and Jefferson County Hospice, Sadie “Lucille” Shettleton, 77, of 339 South Washington Street, died peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at her home.

Lucille was born on July 22, 1943, in Carthage, New York, to the late William Jackson and Sadie (Lawrence) Hamblin.  On January 11, 1963, she married David Austin Shettleton in Watertown, New York.  Mr. Shettleton died on June 28, 1999.  Throughout her adult life, after graduating from Copenhagen Central School, she held several jobs.  She worked as a Bank Teller for Community Bank, N.A., at the Carthage Branch and at the Redwood National Bank, Watertown Branch, and she served as New York State Magistrate in 2004.  She, then, went on to serve as Judge of the Village of Carthage until her death.

A member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Copenhagen, she wore many hats, serving on the Altar and Rosary Society, the Pastoral Council, the Finance Council, and with the Cemetery Association.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children:  Rebecca Vary, Melissa Shettleton, Ethan (Michele) Shettleton, Stuart Shettleton, and Eben (Rosemarie) Shettleton, all of Carthage; and her brother, John Hamblin, of Natural Bridge.  She is predeceased by many siblings including Norma Murrock, Wilma Hutchins, and Thomas Hamblin, and Lawrence Hamblin and Betsy Hamblin.

Donations in her memory can be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Copenhagen, New York, or to St. James Catholic Church, 327 West Street, Carthage, New York 13619.

Calling Hours will be held privately by the family.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, August 10, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Carthage.  Burial will follow immediately in the Fairview Cemetery.
